A bunch of keys

Miss them….Anyone?

A bunch of keys

That’s all my mother gave me

The day dad passed away.

A set of keys

Big and small,

My mother said

They should show you the way.

A bunch of keys

With what I set out

On Life’s long road,

The first door that I came to

Didn’t open

The key in my hand

Perplexed I stood.

I met many doors

Down the path of life

None opened for me,

Crestfallen I asked my mother

Which is the key, for me?

Mother said

Child, those doors never opened

For your dad too,

Heard it had opened last

With your dad’s father

When they were used.

Those are keys

For

Truth

Integrity

Honesty

Compassion, she said

Where will you find them today?

But keep them

For your children,

Who knows?

Those doors will open one day!

A bunch of keys that’s all I have

I am searching still,

Wish Grand Dad was still here

For, I would have got that world

And the doors would have opened at will.

Based on a short poem by the renowned composer Salil Choudhary.
